I wanted to share a card with you that I made for my daughter's birthday yesterday...... And guess what..... there's not even a hit of pink anywhere near it... That's because her favourite colour is turquoise! Sooooo with that in mind, I chose a fab digi image from Digi My World - called Megan...... she certainly was lovely to colour, even if not in pink! As you can see, I cut her out and 3D'd her (a la Debby), and used the usual Nesties for the rectangle. The letters I cut from glitter card using a Tim Holtz Alterations Alphabet Die, and the flowers are the mini-rose die that I've used often before. The paper is from an Echo Park Summer pad... and the glitter, well is just GLITTER! A card isn't a card without some glitter and a few gems....... right?
Now, for those that have been asking to see..... this is my new kitchen (picture heavy from here on in)!
It's ever so nearly finished now.... just one or two teething probs (like the over door wouldn't open from Friday until the Neff man came out today and tells me it needs replacing...... and the washing machine trying to fall over backwards and awaiting the fitter to call to right it....) but hey, ho, that seems like par for the course from what people tell me about new kitchens. It has been a big learning curve...... lessons learned are:
- Never ever get a shiny black worksurface - marks with anything that touches it.... even finger prints and shows every 'wipe' mark too....... needs polishing dry with a cloth after wiping!
- Never ever get a black floor - shows every crumb (or bit of glitter perhaps!) dropped and needs brushing every day
- Never ever get brushed steel appliances unless you want to spend all day every day cleaning fingerprints from them, not to mention splashes on the hob...... I TOLD YOU NOT TO MENTION THEM!
- Never ever trust a kitchen retailer, designer, or fitter
- DON'T lose your temper at any of the above - your kitchen is in their hands......
- Never ever get a new kitchen..... moving house to a new place with a gorgeous kitchen is far less stressful...
- Have large glasses of wine ready at the end of each day until all stress is washed from your body.... (like as if......)
- And R-E-L-A-X.......... or try to.........
Sorry if my kitchen saga has been a tad boring....... believe me, it hasn't been at this end!! hehe
Big hugs
Christine xx
Such a pretty card, kitchen is looking good too.
ReplyDeletehi christine gorgeous card love the image which is coloured beautifully. Caroline xxx
ReplyDeleteYou do make me laugh Christine! Firstly love your card, I can't believe there is no pink but glad you got the glitter on there!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, your kitchen looks fabulous and I love the black floor. But I do agree with you. I have a black tiled floor in my bathroom and whilst I love it, it shows every single piece of dust, cat hairs, everything!!
You have put me in the mood for a glass of red now! Pami x
Hello Christine
ReplyDeleteYour card is gorgeous, I love the image and turquoise is my favourite colour too!
Your kitchen looks fabulous, I love your list of lessons learned!!
Sue
Pretty card and kitchen looks fabulous. I've a black tiled floor and brushed steel too. I've tried various sprays on the brushed steel - Mr Muscle multi surface spray (blue bottle) and a microfibre cloth works the best for me. :)xx
ReplyDeleteHi Christine super cute sweet girly creation..now if you had told me bout what you had in mind I could have told you bout the pitfalls of the work tops/floor/brushed steel etc..I have replaced 6 kitchens in the 6 properties Ive had only had a joiner twice (not kitchen fitter) Brian & I have assembled the units ourselves but we are getting to old to be refitting kitchens now..Ive even got a decorator to come & sort out me b/room & lounge/dinning room..1st time ever hope he's up to my standard..lol hope your new kitchen dosent keep you out of your craft room to long..

What a pretty card! And happy birthday to your daughter, too!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks beautiful. What a shame they don't come equipped with automatic cleaners!
Enjoy the wine, hun!
love Mags B x
The kitchen looks lovely Christine, I have a halogen hob and that shows EVERY mark too. I could spend my life cleaning it, but I decided I had better things to do so it gets done when it gets to a point where I can't bear it any more.
ReplyDeleteLove the card too, despite the lack of pink. Turquoise is a nice colour so I guess that is acceptable, especially under the circumstances (although clearly there is a deficiency in her upbringing if she doesn't like pink) !!!

Fabulous card and very brave of you not to use any pink.
ReplyDeleteMy Daughter is about to have a new kitchen will let her read your list.

Gorgeous card and a super-cute image Christine - bet you are in need of therapy after the painful NOPINK trauma {:D) (Love the blue though).
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is awesome - love your list of "lessons learned". I guess we are lucky as our Son is a self-employed kitchen fitter and he installed ours a couple of years ago. It was the guys who re-wired the house at the same time that caused havoc - what a mess! I would never recommend anyone to have a house re-wired whilst they are living in it.
Hugs, Sylvia xxx
Gorgeous card Christine, I am sure you daughter will love it.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks equally gorgeous, and yes everything you said is right, lol.

Hi christine
ReplyDeleteFirst of all the card is just fabulous love the image and the colours too.
Your kitchen just looks fabulous - I know what you mean about the stainless steel kitchen appliances but .... a tiny bit of baby oil - literally a drop or two at most - on a duster and ta-dah! Your appliances will look like new!
Thanks for dropping by to see me.
Ta ta for now.
Hazel xx
Hi Christine, Gorgeous card! Love this sweet image :-)
ReplyDeleteWow your kitchen looks amazing! However, I do know what you mean about black work tops (I have them and a black ceramic hob) and steel appliances (funnily enough I have them too!).
Lisa x
Hi Christine, fabulous card - love the image, am gonna have to check that co out!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous kitchen as well - looks like it was well worth all the trouble. I'd never had brushed steel appliances until we converted the stables (the holiday let we own) and boy are the the devil to clean!! Give me a nice ordinary hob anyday!
I think I will try Hazels' tip - as all the cleaners I've tried are useless (or so I've found anyway).
Hope you are having a good weekend.
Sarah
Beautiful card Christine...even without the pink lol!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen does look amazing..but I did warn you about kitchen fitters!!
I said exactly the same thing to Phil, when we need a new kitchen we're going to move house instead!
Big hugs

ReplyDeleteI too agree about the black work tops, drive me crazy!!
Have a great stress free weekend in your lovely new kitchen. Hugs Lynne xx
Do you have Home Depot in the UK? I have had pretty good luck with them, and terrible times with private contractors? You're right...just buy a new house...
